"The Big Apple" {NYC Day 4}

One of the things I really wanted to do was to see the Today Show. We got there a little late and could not stay that long since we were going to the Anderson Cooper show but we were there long enough to get on tv for half a second :) and I got to shake Al Roker's hand.

We headed from the Today Show to Anderson Cooper. I had never been to a tv show recording so this was also another first for the trip. We were at the show for a loooog time, we were actually part of three different shows they were taping. We saw Julianne Moore, Kristin Davis , and also people who have weird obsessions. After being at the show for four hours we were ready to explore the rest of the city. I had read on this fun blog about a restaurant called Jack Demsey's that would be covered in a sea of blue and since Kyle bleeds blue I knew he would love a restaurant dedicated to UK. Instead of blue we were greeted with a sea of green, the restaurant was covered in St. Patrick Day stuff and only a few UK items were on the wall. From our not so helpful waitress to the little UK stuff, we were not impressed with the restaurant. From the restaurant the boys headed to Madison Square Garden to see some of the Big East Basketball games while the girls explored the city.

We went to FIT and explored there Museum of Fashion and then we headed back to Central Park area to see a Civil War exhibit they had going on. To be honest after we got to the exhibit we were not really sure why we had traveled so far to see it. None of us like Civil War stuff and Kyle's dad LOVES it so I guess we thought we would be able to tell him all the cool stuff they had but once we got there we were so tired we barely looked at any of the stuff  :)

That's our trip to NYC! It was a great break from work that Kyle and I both desperately needed! Kyle's parents did a great job planning the trip and it was fun hang out with Timmy and Sarah!

"These lights will inspire you" {NYC Day 3}

We went to the 9/11 Memorial. The memorial is not complete but it was cool to see the progress they are making and I am excited to see it when it is finished. It is surreal seeing it in person since I remember exactly what I was doing when the towers were hit. It is really powerful being there and seeing all the names, the victims stories will always be told and they will not be forgotten.

FDNY Ten House is right next to the 9/11 memorial. It was a highlight of the trip for Kyle to see it and to see their fire truck.

We also made our way to Chinatown. We did not stay very long but did have an amusing story to tell. We were getting ready to leave and this cop randomly goes up to Timmy and asks him to take his pictures with a group of Chinese people. Once the cop goes over to the table where illegal gambling was happening, people started to scatter...it was priceless.

After Chinatown we headed to the Brooklyn Bride. What a cool place to see the city from.



I told you we did alot on this trip, next stop Central Park. It was such a beautiful place and it was neat to see a different side of New York instead of just tall buildings and busy streets.

We also went to Grand Central Terminal. The whole time we were there I kept thinking about this commercial.

"Concrete jungle where dreams are made of" {NYC Day 2}

Sunday the boys headed to West Point to see a family friend who goes there and the girls headed to see the Statue of Liberty and to see Wicked! We took the Staten Island Ferry {since it was free and the Statue of Liberty was closed so we decided not to stop at Ellis Island}. It is really cool to see the Statue of Liberty in person since I obviously knew what she looked like but it means so much more when you can see if with your own eyes.

It was off to WICKED! Connie hooked us up with great seats, we were literally in the second row! The show was amazing and our seats just added to the whole experience. I had never been to a major production so I felt super spoiled that I got to see Wicked in New York for my first one! We got to see all the expressions on the actors faces, we were so close we even saw when the actors spit or if sweat came from their faces. It was an awesome production from the costumes, set, and actors....thanks again Connie for one of the best surprises!

We also visited the memorial they have in Jersey City where our hotel was for the victims of 9/11 that died from that city.

"Let's hear it for New York" {NYC Day 1}

I can mark it off my list. I have always wanted to go to New York City and this past week my dream became a reality. Last year Kyle's parents had talked about going to New York when Kyle's brother {Timmy} and Timmy's girlfriend {Sarah} were on spring break. We had been planning on going but then when Kyle's refresher courses for Paramedic got pushed back into March because of the instructor being sick we thought our chances of going were slim to none. Since Kyle's class was suppose to be over at the end of February, his instructor said he could make up the classes he missed...so we were off to New York to see the city that never sleeps!

We woke up super early Saturday morning and went to Flight 93 Memorial. Kyle's parents are known for going to places right when they open {which I don't mind} so at 9 am we were the first ones at the memorial :) The memorial is not completely finished but it was really powerful to see where the flight went down and how 10+ years ago that large field was forever changed.

After stopping in PA we made our way to New Jersey since that is where we were staying. After getting settled in our hotel {we had read reviews that our hotel was not the best, with the possibility of prostitutes and smoky rooms, but we were pleasantly surprised to not experience anything even remotely close to those reviews. For the price I would highly recommend it}, we made our way to the big apple. We took the subway and I was not too impressed at first. I had never been to New York or rode on a subway before so I was not sure what to expect and a little shell shocked. So many people on the subway, no one talking to each other, everyone with these eyes closed listening to there ipods...after riding on the subway for a few days I realized why they listened to their ipods, the subways can be loud and screechy. We made it from the crazy subway ride to be greeted with tons of people walking in the streets, crazy cab drivers, and bright light...O New York how you excite and terrify me all at once :)
